NodeSchool YQR

NodeSchool YQR - June 2018

June 16th, 2018

On June 16th, 2018, twenty-eight individuals came together to learn Javascript and Node.js.

Following some brief opening remarks, our attendees branched off into two groups: beginner and experienced programmers. The beginner group went off with a couple mentors to learn how to download Node.js and install their first workshop, "Javascripting", while our more experienced programmers stayed behind to continue their progress through various workshops.

With everyone set up and ready to "node", we all met back in the main rotunda to work through workshops. Our eight mentors were available to anyone who had questions, comments, or needed help overcoming roadblocks.

Halfway through the event, we held a lightening talk for those attendees who were interested in learning how to add static types to Javascript with flow or Typescript. Around fifteen people attended the quick talk, and from the talk, a great discussion was held amongst participates.

Attendees continued working through the afternoon, and crushed out a fair amount of NodeSchool workshops. As the event drew to a close, our mentors had one final surprise! Thanks to our event sponsor, GasBuddy, we had an amazing door-prize to give away. Everyone's names went into a hat and we drew one lucky winner to take home an Amazon Echo. Congrats to our winner, Sarah, and hope to see everyone out at the next NodeSchool YQR!

Special thank you to Innovation Place for donating venue space to NodeSchool YQR!
